Junnar Education Society
Tucked away in the verdant region at the foothills of the famed Shivneri Fort, lies a quaint little hamlet-Junnar. Situated on the bank of the holy river Kukadi, Junnar plays home to one of the finest educational institutes that has been igniting young minds for the past eight decades.
Established 87 years ago by the revered Guruvarya Rajaram Parshuram Sabnis, Junnar Education Society (JES) came into being on 22nd May 1935. Guruvarya, a mentor par excellence was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s clarion call– ‘Let’s March towards the villages.’ Armed with this mantra and geared with the dream to impart quality education to the children of rural areas, Guruvarya established Junnar Education Society. Today, this institute has evolved into the epicenter of quality education having shaped the lives of thousands of students.
Guruvarya R.P. Sabnis was an exacting personality. He inspired many iconic personalities of Junnar and they came forward to help realise his dream of establishing an educational Institution of merit. The legendary Late Ramchandra Anaji Butte Patil (Raosaheb Butte Patil) joined hands with Guruvarya R.P. Sabnis and offered 18 acres land for 200 years on behalf of Panchalinga Devasthan Trust (Anaji Dhondji Butte Patil Trust) to Junnar Education Society. And thus, the portals of the Institute opened up, ignited by Guruvarya’s chaunt,
“ धर्मंचर ”.
With many firsts to its credit, Junnar Education Society celebrated its Silver Jubilee Year in 1962 in the presence of the then Education Minister Shantilal Shah. In 1995 the institute celebrated its Diamond Jubilee Year which was presided over by the then speaker of the Loksabha Hon. Mr. Shivraj Patil Chakurkar.
Currently Junnar Education Society has 9 pathbreaking institutions under the group aegis keeping Guruvarya’s flame burning bright.

JES is fully equipped with the wherewithal of a successful organization. A well stacked library, a state-of-the-art laboratory, fully operational computer labs, multiple huge play grounds, separate school buildings for each domain, a vibrant auditorium and more take place of pride in the Institute. Many co- curricular & extra-curricular activities co-exist with the domain expertise of the varied branches and the events held draw much attention from one and all. Needless to say, JES is the forerunner for the all-round development of the student through activities like counseling, career guidance session, guest lectures, cultural programmes and sports activities.
Understandably, just brick and mortar does not lend to success. The true strife is of the team that works in the background to give their dedicated focus on enhancing the learning experience of students. A big shout out to the leadership team would be apt. The support and thought leadership of the Management Council, the progressive attitude of teachers, the brilliant genius of students the trust reposed by parents; all contribute to the Institute’s virtuoso. Currently a total 3668 number of students and 119 number of teaching & non- teaching staff are working in tandem with great determination and dedication to uphold the JES worldview and walking on the path of progress as defined by Guruvarya eight decades ago.
Educational excellence does not materialize out of thin air. They have to be thoughtfully invented, meticulously planned, enthusiastically initiated and efficiently implemented in such a way that stays the course of the Institute’s core values while also ensuring Change is consistent with the changing standards of education system.
Unarguably, Junnar Education Society with its penchant for charity, dignity, perseverance and determination has emerged as the strongest thread in Junnar’s fine tapestry.
